What did earning the Kristen Julia Drenten Memorial Scholarship mean to you?
"Everything! Kristen was a dear friend who taught me kindness, courage, loyalty, patience, and silliness! She challenged me to try new things, talk to new people, and become whoever I wanted to be. Her friendship and love was immeasurable.
Earning the scholarship in her name symbolized a promise I made to myself to constantly strive for greatness, utilize my God-given talents to give back to my community, and help others pay it forward. Most days are wonderful, and some are not; but I never settle for the status-quo. That would not be fair to Kristen’s legacy.
And that’s what she left – a legacy. The scholarship helped pay for my first year of college during a time when affording college seemed beyond reach. Now, years later, I am helping others achieve success and earn a college degree. Kristen’s legacy lives on every day through my work."
